Ran a spyware application from Lavasoft, it said to restart, did, then it wouldn't log me in again after that.
Running XP Pro.
MS needs to get something out on this, as it seems to be happening a lot.

Got it!!!!
Just need the CD Reinstall disk, there are several files that are corrupted by the application from LavaSoft on reboot.
Once you place the disk in the CD, then have it start out like it is going to re-install XP brand new, as you progress through, you'll be provided with a prompt to "Repair", select "R" and it will do the rest.
First thing I suggest is to get a recovery disk ready, but before this, get lavasoft out of the system as it will do it to you again if allowed.
Good Luck.

Anyway I hope this idea works and no files are lost.
Will I need to re-activate Windows afterwards?

Hi,
Check this, you wouldn't need to reactivate Windows.
"Blazefind changes the following registry-key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
"Userinit" = "C:\WINNT\system32\userinit.exe,"
in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
"Userinit" = "C:\WINNT\system32\wsaupdater.exe,"
Used Lavasoft Adaware to get rid of the pest ----> removed blazefind
and
with it the wsaupdater.exe
==> next time i tried to logon my computer the system tries to run
wsaupdater.exe which it couldn't find ! FAILED LOGON -> LOGOFF
I first tried to find ways to change the registry from within the
recovery console but i did not succeed (ERD commander will probably
work, but since i wasn't sure that this was the problem i thought it a
little bit too expensive)...
Then i thought of this:
just copy userinit.exe as wsaupdater.exe !! It's as simple as that....
YES!! it works again... and blazefind is gone (it seems.... :-) )"
Using the recovery console employ the command
copy C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe
C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe
(this is one line separated by a space, supposing the partition where
windows is installed is C, and supposing blazefind caused this)
Good luck

Now that you mention that, I'd have to agree. I read through their site and it indicated it was ok with XP. So this is apparently an incorrect claim on their part. However, as with all software, they take no responsiblities for it screwing things up.
So much for FREEWARE/SHAREWARE from now on at least for us here...
