Try booting up in safe mode and see if you can remove the patch.
OR
boot up to the XP cd and run a repair on the OS.
OR
Boot up to the last known good config, (usually seems that this doesn't
work, but its worth a shot)
OR
In safe mode see if you can do a system restore (not positive this option
works in safe mode) you get to this by START / HELP and SUPPORT.
