Go to SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - SYSTEM - HARDWARE - DEVICE MANAGER.. do
you have any items that have been marked with an exclamation (yellow
symbol)?..

have the same problem ( yellow symbol by a usb and camera ) cant get them to work

Go to the 'hardware manager' and remove the camera from the config.. then
use 'add/remove programs' to eliminate any software support for it..
shutdown and restart the computer..
Ensure that you have XP drivers for the camera, and then load them and the
supporting software for your camera.. the software installation will tell
you when it is time to connect the camera.. it is important when installing
USB devices to load drivers and software first, and not connect the device
until told..
