No activity? Do you see the 'hourglass'? Or just your pointer? If you see the hourglass, then there is activity. Check to see what is running in the background, therefore loading at startup.
Click start> run>type in msconfig
Go to the startup tab and see how many programs are loadiing at startup, and uncheck those that you don't need.
Post back with your results. I have 4 things that load when my pc starts, one is the antivirus program ccApp, the other is the ccRegvfy, and the other two are incidentals.
