I tried the first suggestion three times and the steps given were not
available after "tools". I went to the cmd line and, at the c: prompt, I
entered CHKDSK C: /F, when I hit Enter, I got the following:

"Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would
you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system
restarts? (Y/N)"

I typed Y and restarted--nothing.

I have the same problem as you but have a found a work around that works on my system. After performing the usual steps to run check disk, restart and open and exit the bios - without changes- on exiting check disk has worked, at least for me. G.
