might be that your usb device is faulty. have you phoned up the makers of the drive?

Hi,

Usually you can phone up the place where you bought it from and they should be able swap it over for a new one.

Except it was given to me a year ago by someone else.

Come on, is that the only option? "it must be broke" - not very
promising..
