the problem is not removing this file, it is that now that all the other problems have gone to digital heaven, the computer tells me upon startup that it cannot find c:/windows/system32/bridge.dll. What I'm wondering is, is that a problem that I need to adress, and if so, where can I find a copy of the file to replace it?

Hi,

That file is spyware, so you don't need to replace it, you need to
remove references to it in the registry. (start > run > regedit)
Also check Start > Run > msconfig
startup tab
if it's there, disable the entry

Good luck

A few more questions have now risen, and the first is, when I went into the msconfig screen, I found the tab you spoke of, and unclicked the bridge.dll file. Now, under the General tab, Selective Startup is selected, instead of normal startup. Whenever I turn on the computer, it gives me a dialogue that says changes are made, and would I like to put the computer back into Normal startup. I leave it like it is, hit okay, and it tells me it must restart for changes to take effect.
The second question is, under the registry that the bridge.dll refers to (in the startup tab of msconfig), there is nothing that says bridge.dll; nor does that file exist in the directory it points to (SOFTWARE\Microsoft\windows\currantversion\run and c:\Windows\system32\bridge.dll respectively).
I'm not really sure where to go from here.
I just don't want to do the wrong thing, is all.
Thanks once again.

Hi Dave.

This window will keep up popping open until you check a box that is in
the lower part, to the effect that it should not pop upon the next
reboot. It's the only place to tick off in the whole window.

I know it can be a pain, it happened to me too, until I noticed that
check mark, checked it and it stopped popping up.

You checked in the Windows and Windows\System32 folders?

If there's no file there, it means an anti-spyware program took care
of the file and deleted it, but left the registry entry. That's why
the system asked for the file, because it didn't find it, having been
deleted.

I'd say you're taking care of the problem, now you need to check that
box in the window that pops up on reboot, to keep it from popping up
again.

Good luck, hope this helps
