Hi,

You've pretty much covered everything, which leaves two options, processor or memory, i would go with ram, could you you install a dimm of a working machine and put it in your machine and see if windows xp hangs, if it doesn't then it's your faulty memory.

if it still does, then it could be a faulty processor, duno, doubt it could be, but you never know!
