Program too big to fit into Memory message using command prompt |

Whenever I try to run a dos-based program under Windows XP 'command prompt' (in accessories), I always get the this error when I try to run the executable - "Program too big to fit into memory". Anyone know how to increase the available memory to DOS programs, or anything else that would solve this problem? Thanks in advance
