Perfomance problem when not connected

message from =?Utf-8?B?UG90YXRvZQ==?= on 9 Jun 2004
We recently had an outage where our office was off the internet for a day and a half. While 'offline' I got many complaints from many users about TERRIBLE performance in MS-Word. I was wondering it it was unable to authenticate the license and was either : a) recursively trying often enough to seriously impact system performance -or- b) running in some sort of 'hobbled' mode because it could not verify license.
Once our internet connection was restored, performance problems disappeared.
Is this a known problem? Is there a fix?
