No Server service on my system!

message from =?Utf-8?B?cHV6emxlZCBYUCB1c2Vy?= on 7 Jun 2004
services.msc does not list a server service on my XP Pro system.

When I try to share a folder on my XP system, I get the error message "The Server service is not started." I can't start a service that isn't even listed! What's wrong?

go to command prompt and type "net start server" no quotes

not having that service is NOT a major problem; if you are not connected
to a netowrk then you really don't need it, and are probably better off.

But, if you must have it, just run the network setup wizzard, it'll cause
it to be "reinstalled" and set to automatic startup.

control panel | network connections | network setup wizzard

once you reboot you should find that the "Server" and "workstation"
services now show up in the services snap-in [administrative tools |
services].
