My computer running XP is continously rebooting-- cannot stop it |

My home PC is stuck in a boot up mode-- check the disk, showing Windows XP screen, then rebooting. I tried Cntrl+Alt+Delete, rebooting, Esc... nothing is working. A friend says it is a virus but I cannot find any info on type of virus. Any suggestions? Thank you.
