Lost 6gb Hard drive space?

message from Headtheball on 3 Jun 2004
Two days ago I checked my remaining disk space and it said that I had 20gb
left. Today it tells me that I have 14GB left. I have not installed anything
or downloaded anything that would use this space so what could be wrong?

30gb Quantum Fireball HD
AMD Athlon xp 2000+ processor
IGB DDram
AS Rock K7VM2 MOBO
Nvidia TNT2 Graphics
Windows XP Home
Office 2003 Professional

To see what is on your hard drive you need to change a number of =
settings. Select Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced =
Settings, and check "Show hidden files and folders". Whilst there =
uncheck "Hide File Extensions". Also check "Display the contents of =
system folders".

Next enter Windows Explorer and select View, Details and then select =
Choose Details -check all options except "Comments" and "File System".=20

Now to find the larger files on your system. Place the cursor on your C =
drive and select Search, check All Files and Folders. Select further =
criteria, What size is it? -check "Large (more than 1 mb)", More =
advanced options -check Search System Folders, Search Hidden Files and =
Folders and Search Sub-folders" and then click on Search. Sort / resort =
the results by clicking on "Size" over the file size column. Make a list =
of the largest files and post the details here.

=20

Hope this helps.

System restore enabled???
SR files can take up a lot of space.
You can undo all bu the last restore point, right click the
drive(s)-properties,cleanup,more options.
Have you added hardware in the last two days OR updated any drivers??

Hi Dude,
the only hardware that I have added is the 512mb Ram that I was having
problems with earlier. System restore is enabled but only set to 6% or just
over 1 GB
