LCD Monitor Drivers

Hi to all.
My friend has an LG 1810B LCD Monitor which WinXP Pro recognises
as "default monitor"
When we try to update drivers the properties window is greyed out.
The installation CD instructions state go through Control Panel etc
and click properties to update.
Screen is unreadable sometimes with different coloured bands of
flecks 3cms high.
Any help greatly appreciated.
