Java Issues

message from Drew Straight on 4 Jun 2004
Two days ago I installed Windows XP Service Pack 1, Microsoft ActiveX 9.0b,
Windows Media Player 9, and several Critical Updates which include Outlook
Express Update Q330994, Windows XP Hotfix-KB823182, Windows XP
Hotfix-KB824105, Windows XP Hotfix-KB825119, Windows XP Hotfix-KBB26939,
Windows XP Hotfix-KB828035. After installation of these updates and fixxes,
no Java-based games on Pogo.com, or another other site, will load. The
screen will open saying that the game is loading, but it goes no further.
The ad that is sopposed to be displayed also does not load, it says the
action was cancelled. Also, my modem goes in-active once the screen for the
game opens, no more data is sent/recieved, it just acts like nothing is
happening. I tried re-installed Microsoft VM, I then deactivated it, and
installed Sun Java 2 Runtime, this did not work either. I downloaded new
videocard drivers to be sure my card supported ActiveX9.0, I ran a virus
scan, I have deactivated everything that runs in the background except
Explorer and taskmanager, I have cleared out all cache and temporary files,
including cookies. Any ideas? I tried to do a system restore back to before
i installed all of the updates and it will not let me. They are set-in-stone
on the machine. If the problem cannot be resolved I guess I will be forced
to re-format. But that is a HUGE pain as I have my system set up just the
way I want it. The system is a Dell Dimensions 4300. Pentium 4 Processor
running at 1.4ghz, 256mb of ram, 40gig harddrive, video card is a GeForce2
Nvidia 64mb. Please Help. Thanks in advance.

HI Drew,

You know the numbers of the hotfixes, try uninstalling them by going
to the Windows\$NTUninstallKBxxxxxx$\Spuninst folder (where xxxxxx is
the number of the hotfix) and click on spuninst.exe. It will uninstall
the hotfix and reinstall the older files.

Try to uninstall newer hotfixes first, after each one, try to get to
the Java games.

Good luck

You don't have folders in the Windows directory beginning with
$NTUninstall ?
Did you erase the folders?
They're there in case you ever want to uninstall the hotfixes.

You have to go in folder options..view tab and check show hidden files
and folders.
