Internet problems

message from =?Utf-8?B?TWVudGFsQmFrdXJh?= on 30 May 2004
I can't view any web pages on my account on XP Professional. It displays error 403 'Access denied by access control list'. It works fine in my dad's account. Me and my dad are totally stumped by this, and we can't find the solution on any sites. We have broadband. Please e-mail any ideas.

Use Windows search feature to locate a file named, simply, HOSTS (no
extension). If found, rename it to HOSTS.BAK. Ignore HOSTS files that
have an extension.

If this solves the problem suspect parasites, which are worth checking for
in any case...

Hosts may be a hidden file.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

To display Hidden files and folders

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Folder Options | View tab
Check:
Display the contents of system folders
Show hidden files and folders
UNCheck:
Hide protected operating system files
Apply | OK

[[Hidden files and folders will appear dimmed to indicate they are not
typical items.]]
