Is my data gone forever?

message from =?Utf-8?B?RW5jcnlwdGVk?= on 8 Jun 2004
The motherboard on my dell Pentium III machine failed catastrophically, thanks to a power surge.

The 180g Western Digital IDE hard drive seems ok, but of course when viewed from another machine, all the "documents and settings" files are inaccessible. Disaster.

I bought a new PC today with no software. It has a 74 gig Sata drive. I have an original Windows XP professional CD.

How should I approach this? My data on the old drive (NTFS) really is critical.

Suggestions warmly appreciated.

If the data is actually encrypted, See #3 on the same link.
