HP PCL5e Drivers Crash, Windows XP Drivers OK

message from Dr. Ephemeron on 9 Jun 2004
I have a LaserJet 5P, Windows XP and the PCL5e drivers v02.12.02. The
Printer works fine with the drivers hooked directly to my Windows XP
computer, but I now have the 5P hooked up to a Mandrake Linux 10.0 computer
using CUPS. I have both compuyers on a home network hooked up to a Netgear
WGR614 Router. I add a printer to the Windows XP computer and hook up to
http://my_linux_pc:631/printers/HPLaserJet5P and it accepts it, but if I try
to print a test page, it crashes.

I also have a Laptop on the network using the built in Windows XP drivers
and it works great printing through the Linux computer... even on a wireless
card. I didn't want to try and install the HP v02.12.02 PCL5e drivers on it
in fear it would screw things up so I tried a Windows 2000 computer with the
built in Win2k drivers and it works great, but as soon as I installed the HP
v02.12.02 PCL5e, I get a crash when trying to print.

I then installed the HP v4.3.2.200 5P/5MP pcl 5e drivers on the Win2k
computer and they work great.

Is their a solution for the HP v02.12.02 PCL5e drivers? If not, how can a
completly clean the HP crivers off my Windows XP computer? I try to install
the Windows XP 5P drivers and it still uses the HP v02.12.02 PCL5e drivers.

Thanks
