HELLO??? HELP!! DEVICE PREVENTING STANDBY MODE

There are a number of threads on this topic. Yet I've seen no resolution.

COM Port device preventing machine from entering standby. Try updating the driver.

I've tried updating the driver. That didn't work. I deleted com ports and it moved to the winmodem I don't use. I deleted that and it moved back to a COM port.

I think this is fairly widespread and it seems to be a problem that sprung up in the last 3-4 months.
