Hotfix deployment issue

message from =?Utf-8?B?QW5keSBM?= on 8 Jun 2004
Hi

I am trying to install security hotfix MS03-008 on a Windows XP SP 1 (Not 1a) installation and am encountering a problem.

""setup could not verify the integrety of update.inf please makesure the cryptographic service is running on this computer" see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822798"

Having checked the support page, various workarounds are provided. One of the suggests renaming the EDB.LOG (%systemroot%\system32\catroot2\edb.log) file and reinstalling the hotfix.

I have done this in a test environment, and the hotfix does indeed install.

My question is, "what is the impact of renaming this file (I believe it is a transaction log for AD but could be mistaken!). Does Windows simply write another edb.log file?

Thanks for any help provided

Andy;
Renaming or deleting the corrupted file is safe.
Windows simply recreates the file as needed.
