DVD + CD RW drives disabled/lost !

Thought my CD RW had stopped working as it wasn't recognising a blank cd so went to device manager and both drives had been disabled - don't know how. Went through troubleshooting in device manager - to no avail. An earlier posting by someone else, suggested uninstalling the drive and to see if windows recognised new hardware on startup. Uninstalled CD RW drive - windows didn't recognise new hardware and now both drives have completely disappeared.

Can anyone suggest a solution - I can't possibly be expected to work on a boring pc without any music!!!!!!

Hi,

Download and install a tiny patch from the following URL to delete
upper and lower filters from the Windows registry:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs
