Cant save pics as JPEGS...only as "untitled" Bitmaps

I have IE 6.0 on a windows xp.I used to be able to download/save
pictures from the net.The window pops up with the file location,and
the pic would have a filename already and the "save as type" would
default to JPEG files.

Now when I try to save any picture it defaults to a bitmap file called
"untitled".There is no other otpion listed in the "save as" window.
Only way to get it back to normal is to use
TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS and delete the cookies and the temp
internet files...only to have the program freeze up until I use the
task manager to end task.Please help.

Clean out your Temporary Internet Files.
