Copying image comes up BMP now instead of JPG.

Recently a box appears when logging on saying data1.dat was not found.I can click ok and proceed,but then when I try to copy an image(using the diologue that pops up in the upper left corner of image)it is a BMP untitled file instead of JPG or GIF with title.Just started doing this recently.Have cleaned out temp files disc clean up,and system restore.None work.
