Computer keeps freezing! |
| message from =?Utf-8?B?UHV0aHkgR29sZGJlcmc=?= on 1 Jun 2004 |
My computer keeps freezing. It does not happen when trying to run too many tasks, just simple things. It seems to "store up" tasks (such as opening Word) and waits for a good few minutes before doing anything, it sometimes gets going if I switch user then log back on. Please help! I have a newish PC (september 2003), P4 2.8GHz processor, 512MB RAM, P4P800 MB, running Win XP Home. Could it be a faulty part or possibly overheating? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Overheating is a leading culprit in system freezes . Knowing the recommended
cpu temperature and where to read them ( usually in the bios) and knowing
and reading the system voltages is very helpful. Eliminate these above items
then look for new software and hardware as the next suspect. Jym

STEP 1
Spybot-S&D http://spybot.safer-networking.de/
AND (it's AND, not OR)
Ad-aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Disconnect Internet.
Restart computer in Safe Mode (see Help(F1) for more information), and scan it using all these programs, antivirus first.
STEP 2
Low transfat and low carb diet for your pc or How to optimize Windows XP for the best performance:

Always keep antivirus and spy removal applications (links on the bottom of the page) up-to-date, and scan regularly.
Good Luck!
