Computer crash

message from =?Utf-8?B?QWFyb24=?= on 30 May 2004
Its dead! When I get promted to logon, I do, then windows starts, and then 2 seconds later, it stops again, and I am returned to the logon screen. I have tried to configure boot settings to run the CD-rom first and reinstall/ repair from the XP CD, but it does not boot the CD, it goes directly to the logon page and starts over. I am going to lose 5 years worth of data and thoughts. I don't mind this, if it's inevitable, just rebooting the computer would be nice.

Hi Aaron,

Try this page to make sure you are accessing the BIOS and setting the
CD as first boot device:
Accessing Motherboard BIOS
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

You have to press a key within a few seconds for the system to boot to
the CD, try pressing the spacebar.

Finally, detailed instructions for a repair-install are here, this
should keep your data OK.

Good luck, hope this helps

Very strange. It should boot from the cd if it is set to boot in the first
position. Recheck bios boot sequence . Was the cd rom working before you
had the current problem ? Is the cd rom light coming on when use insert the
XP cd ? Are you "pressing any key" when it prompts you to in order to boot
from the cd ? Jym
