Can't hear DV-1 audio on XP Professional machine

I've got 2 machines, an old Micron Pentium 700 MHz desktop, and a Toshiba Satellite 1415 1.6GHz laptop. When working with DV-1 encoded video files, I can't hear the audio on the laptop. I've tried everything that I can think of, without success. Software being used between the two machines is identical. Any ideas?
