CHKDSK cannot run, system startup terribly slow |
| message from Denis Wong on 03 Jun 2004 |
Somehow I was screwing around in Diskeeper Pro- I set the program to run
CHKDSK and defragment my hard disks once before startup. From that point
on, CHKDSK would start at startup, but then read an error message "Cannot
open volume for direct access" (or something like that) and startup takes
at least 3 times longer than usual.
Anyone know how to stop CHKDSK from starting up, or at least how to speed
up the startup process? My recent (online) defrag didn't help in speeding
up the startup.

Are you using Zone alarm v5.x. If so visit the Zone alarm web site.
To clear the error message run chkntfs /d in a command prompt window.
Review the M/S KB article 160963
