Administrator Woes

message from =?Utf-8?B?S2lyYQ==?= on 1 Jun 2004
I am trying to use my CD Drive E to backup some information. However, I keep getting the message: "You do not have access to the folder 'E:\'. See your administrator for access to this folder."
I am logged on as the owner. How do I make myself the administrator?
Thanks so much for any help you can give me - I am going nuts.

If you the administrator of the box then login to admin account and head
to control panel > user accounts. Then set your user account as admin.
If you are not the admin then you have to have the admin set you up.

Bob.
Thank you. Apparently, I am the administrator but I am still shut out of using my CD-RWs. For some reason, I am not being recognized as administrator when I try to backup my information by copying it onto a rewritable disc. Very frustrating.

Assuming that you are logged on with administrative rights, right-click My Computer and select Manage.

Expand Local Users and Groups.

Select Groups with a single click. In the right-hand pane, double-click the Administrators group. This will bring up a window where you can add your user account into the Administrators security group. This *should* grant you access to the drive, provided that the Administrator group has been granted rights to that device.

Hmm...now that I'm looking at my DVDROM drive, I don't see any security settings for it, so this may not be much help...

Scott,
Thanks so much for answering my post. I failed to mention that I have the Home edition. That may be why I do not have the option 'Local Users & Groups'. Any other ideas?

Obviously, I haven't had much exposure to XPH.
