sidewinder gamepad gameport

i bought a new pc and it does not have a gameport...also
when i put in the software cd of the sidewinder in the pc,
it says that it can't be installed. i have a winxp. what
can i do?? should i buy an adapter from gameport to USB.
and what should i do about the software????
