With Access 2000 I can easily read a dbase file. but can I save that dbase
database file as an Access 2000 table? thank you

From the menu bar try File|Get External Data|Import. Select the version
of dbase file (III, IV, V) that you want to import. This should allow
you to create an Access table from the imported data.

I have answered this same question several times in the last few days.
If you had done a search on the forum (say using dbase as a search key)
you would have found the answer and not had to wait until someone
answered your question.

Yes; the simplest way is to open Access and select File... Get External Data... Import. Change the default "Files of Type" to the appropriate version of dBase and select the .dbf file you want to import.
