help: archives? |
| message from G. Sahakian on 24 May 2004 |
hello,
this is probably not the right place but I cannot see where to ask; would
anyone be so kind as to tell me if and where there are archives for
microsoft.public.* NGs, since they are not in Googles; thanks a lot.
regards,

I'm afraid you are mistaken or misled. Possibly the specific group
"microsoft.public" is no longer archived, but Google Groups archives 296
groups in the microsoft.public.* hierarchy, of which it lists 35 groups
in the microsoft.public.access.* hierarchy. In the
"microsoft.public.access" group itself, Google Groups reports "about
66,500" threads. And there are many other groups in this hierarchy.

Dirk & Fred,
My mistakes!
1. Threads are displayed backwards, most recent post first. I only
checked one message per thread.
2. If you scan through threads rather than searching , i.e. previous 100
<<, next 100>>, you can only reach the 1000 most recently changed threads.
3. Taking into account the above, it is obvious (now) that the message
(This group is no longer archived) was automatically applied to all
non-existent groups in the hierarchy.
We should all do what we do best. I jump to incorrect conclusions <sigh>
