big database

message from bev on 7 May 2004
can i run a big database using access 2003? 5 users, maybe 1 millions
records?

if not, what else could i use? someone mentioned MSDE, but i dont know what
this is.

Access 2003 can handle a file size of up to 2GB. There is no explicit limit
MSDE is a scaled down version of SQL Server that comes with Office/Access.
I have heard that the file size limitation is alsoG, but have not been able
to confirm this on Microsoft's site. If anyone has link either way, I'd
love to see it.

Cool...thanks!

so you would recommend proceeding with Access rather that going down the
MSDE route?

thanks

My personal recommendation when all else is equal is to use MSDE. It is
more stable, has builtin security, online backups, etc. But that's just me.

For a million records I'd agree with you. It's a bit more work but
definitely stabler.
