User Permission Problem |

I have MS Access 2000 running on a laptop with Win XP and I am having
trouble getting users to have access to some databases. I have two
databases that seemed to need repair so I used the repair utility and it
worked, but I now find that the Administrator can access the databases but
users cannot. The message I get is that permissions are required, or the
database is in use. I have tried several things with the permissions dialog
but to no avail. These databases have been used since Win 3.11 and Access
4, but until now they have converted to the new systems and versions of
Access. All other databases are available to all users. Any
suggestions?

Access 4? No such thing: it went from Access 2 to Access 95 (aka Access 7)
In any case, what permissions do they have on the folder where the database
is located? They require read. write and delete.

Right, it has be a long time since I used my earlier version of Access.
Everything seems to be set correctly on permissions, though the dialog box
for permissions in Access is confusing to me as to which user is getting
permissions. The databases that work are set like the ones that aren't
being shared. In Windows Explorer all sharing is ok. I did notice that I
have some lockfiles in the folder where I store the databases. That is
probably a clue, but I don't know what to do about them. I didn't just try
to delete them. Any thoughts, and thanks for the help?

I wasn't asking about permissions in Access: I was only asking about their
permissions to the files themselves.
You way "in Windows Exporer all sharing is ok". What does that mean: that
all they have read, write and delete on the folder(s) in which the MDB
file(s) exist? They must, even if they only have read access to the MDB
file(s).

I have no idea what you're asking. Did you mention something about lockfiles
in a previous note? (That's one of the downsides of not included relevant
parts of the previous posts!)
And you didn't answer my question: do your users all have read, write and
delete access to the folders where the MDB files are?

With Access closed, and no other users in your database, these 1 KB files should be automatically
deleted when the last person exits the database. If you see any of these files hanging around,
then delete them.
