Problem with import wizard |

I'm using Access 2002 on a Windows XP Professional machine. I'm attempting
to import an text file into Access using the Import Wizard. I cannot change
the field names. When I change a field name, the name is applied to the
first field. I select another field besides the first field and attempted to
change its name. The change is applied to the first field.
It appears that, whatever fields you select, only the field options of the
first field is displayed above. And, you can only change the field options
of the first field.

Hi Michael,
Are you sure you are using Access 2002? I have heard of this problem affecting Access 2003, but
I haven't heard anything similar for Access 2002. There is a hotfix available for Access 2003,
but, right now you need to call Microsoft and ask them to send the patch to you. See the
following KB article:

Yes, I'm using Access 2002 with SP3. I also have OneNote 2003. Maybe a
file installed with OneNote is causing the problem.

Possibly. I'm not familiar with OneNote yet. Do you know if this software includes any text
import wizards?
So far, I have not been able to reproduce the symptoms that you report. I am using Access 2002
with SP-3 for the tests. You might search your hard drive for the file named "acwzlib.mde".
This file contains the Import/Export Wizard. The version that I found on my PC is 1.58 MB
(1,662,976 bytes), and shows a Creation Date of Tuesday, December 04, 2001, 9:46:46 PM. Do you
have a newer version of this file?

OneNote does not appear to have any import functionality.
My version of acwzlib.mde is the same as yours except for the creation
time. The creation time of my version is 10:46:48 PM.

Michael,
There is no fix for this issue for Access 2002 at this time, but there is a
workaround. When you are using the Import Wizard to import text files,
there is an advanced button in the lower left hand corner of the wizard
window. If you click that it gives you some more options with which to
format the fields that you are importing. At the bottom of this screen is a
window that will allow you to change the field names.

Now it makes perfect sense! I assumed all along that Michael was using the advanced
button....that's why I couldn't reproduce the issue.
