Problem opening access file |
| message from Elsie on 11 May 2004 |
Hi, my colleague was working on an access file, when the whole pc hanged.
After re-booting, that file is no longer accessible. When I try to open it
using MS Access 2002, a message: "The current user account doesn't have
permission to convert or enable this database" appears. But when I try to
open it using Access 97, another message: "<file name> isn't an index in
this table, Look in the Indexes collection of the TableDef object to
determine the valid index names".
What is the problem with this file? Is it corrupt? How can I make it usable
again?
Thanks,
Elsie

Try deleting the ldb file and then try compact & repair in Access for the
database. That should fix things..

the file is stored on a server.... I don't see the ldb file. but I tried to
compact and fix the database, still can't open that file.
will try to install sp1 to sp3 and try again.

1) MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF THE FILE
2) If this is an A97 MDB then very likely installing SR1, SR2 and Jet
3.5 SP 3 will likely solve this problem.
See Microsoft Access Fixes, Patches and Updates
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/msfixes.htm
3) Otherwise for more information on corruption including possible
causes, determining the offending PC, retrieving your data, links,
official MS KB articles and a list of vendors who state they can fix
corruption see the Microsoft Access Corruption FAQ at
