Disable macros?

message from Van T. Dinh on 27 May 2004
Distribute your app in the MDE format and the user won't
be able to change the Design of the database including
create Macros. You need to keep the MDB file in a safe
place as you WILL NEED it if you want to do any mods to
the database.

Alternatively, implement Access Security (a fair bit more
work involved).

Thanks, but aren't both of those methods tied to particular databases?

I really need to disable the capability for all databases rather than for
particular projects. The idea is to prevent non-programmers from being able
to create 'application' using macros that will be difficult to maintatin.

I've seen this same post in another ng. That you? If so, crosspost, by
listing your target rewsgroups, rather than multipost, sending the same post
individually to several newsgroups. By crossposting an answer in one ng
will propagate to all of the other newsgroups.

People are only creating macros in Access if they have retail Access
available. Most likely each workstation has a copy. You are unsatisfied
with the answers that refer to MDE files but that's as good as it gets.

1. You can't inhibit full MS Access from creating macros.

2. Even if you could inhibit macro creation you'd have to track down
every copy in your universe of concern and make the change (the change you
can't make anyway).

3. You'd still have to expunge all of the macros in all of the user
base's personal Access creations.

In short, you can't get there.

It sounds like you may feel, or are being told, that you are responsible for
what people do on their workstations if it is done using Access. That's
absurd! It is simply beyond your control.
