Create Blank 2003 database results in different sizes |
| message from =?Utf-8?B?am9l?= on 6 May 2004 |
I created 2 blank 2002 (SP-1) databases (under Win 2k) to import my '97 FE and BE databases that were not converting successfully. I saved both 'blanks' without importing, accessing, or viewing any of the new database structure (no content was installed). I noticed the first database was 100K, and the second database was 104K! Before I created the 2nd database, Windows Installer popped-up and announced the installation of a "..Microsoft Access Feature.."; no other detail.
I can recreate the problem (Why should Windows need to re-install a missing feature?), and tried to identify the Installation activity with InstCtl, but I am at a loss to identify the offending component.
I am a little paranoid because I found the Welch virus on my computer a couple weeks ago, although I have current Symantic Internet Security and Anti-Virus definitions. I have since downloaded and run the 30 latest Extraction & removal tools from the Symantic web site just to be sure.
Any clues???

BTW, successive 'OPEN's of these blank databases cause successive 'install' events, and often result in the (blank) database increasing by an additional 4k!!!
