Access database will not open

message from Gold on 16 May 2004
This problem seems unique to the Dell Computers in my
network - 10 of which are running Windows 2000 and 3 are
running Windows XP. I have one Compaq running Windows NT
4.0, one Compaq running Windows 2000 and a Sony running
Windows XP on which the problem does not happen. Each
workstation has a front end. The back end is on a
server. On all the Dell machines, the desktop shortcut
to the application intermittently hangs. When you check
the processes, there are multiple entries for
msaccess.exe although Access is not open. If you reboot
the machine then click the desktop shortcut, the
application invariably opens. The application can also
be opened by opening Access and going to the file>open
menu. Occasionally, the application can be opened by
right clicking the shortcut and using the "Open with
Access" option. Does anyone know what is causing this
problem?

I'm not entirely convinced this is unique to the Dells although there
could be an "interesting" video or printer driver problem.

I'd check the following first:
Access minimizes to Windows 95/NT toolbar instead of closing
