hi
i just upgraded to win xp pro (finally)
1. how do i turn on the server (pws / iis / whatever s)?
2. should i install mdac or is it part of the os ?

See if Internet Information Services is installed and running. Go to Start
is installed by default. If it's NOT there, go to the Control Panel. Run
Add / Remove Programs and go to the Add Windows Components section...you'll
need the WinXP CD. Then install IIS. Finally, perform a Windows Update and
you'll be fine.
