templates not updating pages... please help

message from bluesky-pha on 23 Jul 2004
I recently began designing a new site making use of the templates feature of
dreamweaver. The problem I'm running into is that when I change my template,
dw prompts me to update the pages that use the template, the dialog box reports
x pages updated (the date/time stamp changes to reflect a change in windows
explorer as well); however, the changes I made are not in the files!

The main thing I changed was the location of links in the template. I changed
the targets to different pages, saved the template, got the update dislog and
the report was that all the pages were changed, yet the pages didn't change to
match it. Any suggestions?

I'm using DW
Thanks!

Here are five ways to make changes not propagate from Template to child -

1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other
than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which will not
propagate)
5. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template and child page
is broken

The latter problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site
Cache, and the three others can be fixed by just not doing them. Have you
done any of those?
