setting up contribute connection

message from Paddy O' Connell on 20 Jul 2004
Dear Anyone,
When trying to set-up a contribute connection from the site definition
dialogue box I keep getting this error "an unnamed file contains an
invalid path" and if I stay with it to try and find out what this is,
Dreamweaver crashes, any ideas???

You need a copy of Contribute to do this - do you have one?

Dear Murray,
No I'm running DWMX on a MAc running OSX10.2.8 and don't have a copy of
Contribute on my system. I'm trying to setup admin user for a client who
has purchased Contribute

Then you need to buy a copy of Contribute to do that.

Both you and your client need to have a copy. You need a copy to establish
a connection key and to administer the site, and your client needs a copy to
make the edits.

Your copy is good for any site using Contribute. You will never need to buy
another copy.

Your client's copy is good for one workstation at their facility.

Dear Murray,
That's really strange as I set up a site for contribute with MX running
under OS9 a few months back, why is there a section in DWMX site
definition dialogue box that is dedicated to setting up a site for
Contribute and how come I managed to create a set of 6 keys for another
clients 6 websites?

do you still have access to dw 6.1 MX ?
If yes, fire it up and create the keys. You could export/import the site
definitions between 2004 and MX so you don't have to re-enter that stuff.

MX 6.1 has the admin for contribute built into it.
2004- the Admin Contribute Site is just a menu item, it doesn't do anything
unless Contribute is also installed on that same machine. If contribute is
installed, it fires it up and opens the Admin of the Contribute application.

Then you should be able to do it.

MX could do this. In MX2004 they split out the Administration so that the
two products could be patched independently. You cannot administer a site
in DMX2004.
