login/password tutorial |
| message from A.H.O. on 22 Jul 2004 |
I dont want to assign a bunch of users their own name and password. What Id
like to do is give them all a username and password that is preassigned to a
page so they can login and view.
I'll explain what Im trying to do so it makes sense. My company sells both
retail and wholesale. On my website I have a retail store, and a wholesale
store. I want to make it so companies that want to RESell for me can purchase
on the website as well. Obviously I want to keep the retail market out of the
wholesale pages. To do this, I just want to be able to have a reseller who is
interested in making a wholesale purchase email us for access to our wholesale
section. We would then send them a generic username and password that ALL of
our resellers can use to get in and make purchases. Does that make sense? It
doesnt need to be THAT secure. Maybe some way to "hard code" (?) a username
and password into a login page? I have no idea how it would work (hence my
needing a tutorial), but I do know that I dont want to get into databases etc.
We just dont have a need for it.
Thanks

If you use a server side language you can create a login system with that. I
have an extension that will help you if you use PHP, the PHP Login suite,
more details at
http://www.dreamweavermxsupport.com/extensions/
If your not using a server side language, have a search on the net for
.htaccess and you can also password protect areas of a site using that
system.

www.webthang.co.uk has some good tutorials. Also I found an old book written
for Ultratdev 4, but the apps work fine with MX. The book is Foundation
Dreamweaver Utradev 4 written by www.friendsofed.com.
Hope this helps.
