browser checking |
| message from A.H.O. on 23 Jul 2004 |
I am checking my site for usability issues/accesability on IE 6, NS(whatever
the latest one is) and Opera. Are there any other browsers I should check? Or
am I covering the bases fairly well?
Let me guess...I need to check NS 4 and IE 3 too? (re: the thread about
outdated browsers)

You should check all the browsers that your end-user audience is using.
If you are concerned about accessibility, then the specific browser a person
uses really shouldn't effect one's ability to access the content.
Here's what *I* check in:
PC: IE6, 5.5, 5 and make sure I can get to content in IE4. Latest Opera.
Latest Moz/NN/Firefox. Screen reader if I can. Text browser if I can. NN4
(usually without styles)
Mac: Latest Safari, Latest Moz/NN/Firefox, Latest Omniweb, Latest Opera. IE5
(I don't worry too much about layout in this browser...just that people can
get to the content) NN4 (Usually without styles)
Linux: Konquerer

IE6, Opera and a recent Mozilla should cover most of them.
IE5 and IE5.5 if possible, they are still used and have their own
special "features". It's also a good idea to check with a textbrowser(!)
like Lynx to get an impression what a search engine's bot will see from
the site. You can use the lynx-viewer if no local version is available.

No need to dig into IE3. Nothing works there.... 8)
