What to do about .LCK files

Just from the installation of MX 2004 it happily created thousands of .LCK
files in my folders on the web server.
I did NOT check the box for CHECK IN/CHECK out. They are also messing with my
read/write properties somehow.

Is there a quick way to remove these files? I am deleting them by hand at the
moment.
Ughhhh!

Please help.
