Where do I go from here?

message from zengirl8480 on 23 Jul 2004
Hello,
My "start-up" web designing company proudly has three original and very
personal websites out there with very happy website owners/clients. I have had
a blast creating sites first using a site builder type template but then
spending hours upons hours tweaking the hell out of it to give it a very
personal and original feel to them. For my current client (#4) I have decided
to really think out of the box and venture out. ... Create a website, template
-free, using CSS. I have been self- teaching all the way through tutorials,
etc. I have completed the index page w/ navigation bar. Thanks to Drew
Mcclellan. He's tutorial was great! However, now I am stumped! I have it all
sketched out, but just need a little guidance as to where I should look to for
the next step in the CSS process.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and by the way, My website is
www.SagacityDesigns.net. My very first attempt at web designing. It is a slow
loader...have got to get to my site and work on it but have been too busy with
the new clients. Would love suggestions, comments or advise on Sagacity's site
as well.
Thanks,
Zengirl

1) Your site is EXTREMELY slow loading.
2) While waiting for it to load, I was further turned off by the
background color.
3) The animation wasn't worth the wait.

I'm not trying to be obnoxious; those are just my feelings. I'd drop the
flash and choose a lighter, brighter (or lighter, cooler) background color.

Suggestions:

Drop the flash. Prospective clients will be put off by the length of time
it takes to load. I've got broadband but would not have waited for the page
to download if I hadn't been checking out the site.

Learn about using relative sizes with css. This will remove the horizontal
scrollbar at smaller screen areas.

Colour schemes need a bit of work. http://www.websitetips.com/color/
More contrast is needed between text and background. Take a screenshot of
the flashsplash, paste it into your gfx editor and convert it to greyscale.
Can you read the text.

Firm Profile. I think biographies should not be abbreviated to bios :-)

That should keep you occupied for an hour or two.

If it's any consolation, it's a lot better than my first effort.

Terry
