What templates on what pages?

Is there any way to see what templates are being applied to each page on my
site? For example, a column be included in the files view which shows which
template, if any, if being applied to a page? Or can I generate a report that
lists all my pages and what templates are being applied? I know I can open
each page and see what template is being applied, but I'm looking for something
a little more efficient than that.

Do a sitewide Find and Replace for template name. This will give you a list
of all child pages of that template.

But it's a good suggestion - you can let the development team know by
sending it here -

Okay, I will send the suggestion, in the meantime, that's a good alternative
to use sitewide Find and Replace.

there is/was an extension that issued reports by template name and child
files using it. I'm using DW 4.0 and it was updated to MX which left me
out. It was done by someone who was a frequenter to this group and
called "TEMPLATEDPAGES.JS"

Yes - Massimo has made one like this.

I have it if anyone is interested in it.

1. All pages are under template control, and
2. The number of templates used is always the minimum number (I try to
shoot for 1)

This being the case, the extension is not so useful to me....

Yes, I too strive to keep templates to one, max. 2 but could have
several test ones going. That's when the extension came in handy. Ran
that to make sure all were transferred over to the "newest" version.
Also, found orphans that accidentally slipped in :) I've not used it in
quite awhile nor is it on my G4 (sits happily on old 7500 :)

Hmmm... why do you try try to keep templates to so few? I am finding that I
need numerous templates. The reason is that I'm using them to congrol my
navigation menus. I have a base template where I place an overall site nav
menu. Then within that base template are editable regions to contain more
specific nav menus for sub areas of my site. So for each sub area of my site,
I create a new nested template. In that nested template I place the "local"
nav menu and then lock the editable region. So I end up with one master
template, and then a template for each sub area of my site. Is there a better
way to do this that would avoid creating so many templates?

I use Optional regions and conditional IF statements to write my subordinate
navigation.

Take a look here -

and browse to the different pages of that site. This site is controlled by
a single template.

Alternatively, you could make a single template with an editable region to
contain your subordinate navigation, and then create a separate Library item
for each subnavigation menu. Drop them into the appropriate pages. You
have multiple Library items, but still only a single template.
