Using DW for ASP

message from Clark on 21 Jul 2004
How good is DW ar genertating asp? I use (gasp) FrontPage and have a
functional database-driven site that I built with it.

But I want to move to a higher level of database interaction (ability
for users to login with their own personal password instead of a
one-password for all members, modify their own database records, maybe
even auto-generate an email to users based on a database date etc).

Do the DW server behaviors support this kind of capability (without my
having to code asp)? I have read where some FP users use DW for
generating ASP pages, and then just incorporate them into their FP webs.

Comments?

Thanks

I've been using Dreamweaver and/or UltraDev for ASP for several years now.
It works fabulously :-)

Best regards,
Chris

Yes. Works like a charm!

Well I have been using it for a few years and love it, but our server has
started to throw the old " . . . System resources exceeded . . ." error
about every 1.25 days. I am not absolutely certain it is the fault of the
ASP, but cannot say for sure.
It is getting to be a real super inconvenience to have to reboot and relog
the web server every day.

It could be that you have an un-ending script, like an infinite loop. This
error will also show up from time to time in a shared web hosting
1) connecting to the Access database using odbc instead of using the more
reliable OLEDB JET driver.
2) running an extreamly large query, which Access can not deal with.

Just using the stock Dreamweaver generated stuff and mostly DSN connections.
I have been trying to change over to MS Jet connection strings.

No large querys involved. The queries always succeed (Never timeout or any
error once initiated) if the page will load at all.

Hi,

I've use DW for about 4 years with ASP which is tried and true. DW handles it
very nicely. Not having the same luck with PHP but hopefully things are
improving along that line. DW is hands down over Frontpage once you get past
the learning curve. It's actually set up in a much more logical fashion than
FP but it might take a while getting use to the different setup. Good luck.
