Uploading Access Database While Users Connected?

message from omegaskl on 18 Jul 2004
Hi,

I have just started using Drewmweaver's Server behaviors to
What is the best way to update the database. If I make a change to my
local copy, add a table, edit data, etc. Is it OK to just upload the new
.mdb file? I am concerned that if other are writing data to the
database, I could cause problems.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
safest way would be to block user access to the site at a specified time
'for maintenance', download the database, make your edits to the downloaded
version, then upload the 'new' database

Thanks, I was thinking that would be the best way, but how can I kick
people out that are currently using the database? Or is that something I
should not worry about?

I would be tempted to put up a temporary index page saying that you will
close between midnight and 6am (or whatever, fair warning) and then just 'do
it'

Thanks Craig, this is probably what I will do. I don't have the option
of using a Citrix server.

I'm fortunate enough that I can use Citrix to login to the server.
Very painless to start Access on the citrix desktop and import a new
table or query to the server's database from the client's database.
See if that is an option for managing your files.
