Using Templates |
| message from nokia_760 on 16 Jul 2004 |
Hi,
I have just started to use dreamweaver and am in the middle of designing my
site.
I have finished the home page and made it into a template to use with the rest
od the site.
I have made the main content of my site into an editable region so all that is
fixed in the templat is the title and navagation buttons.
However when I come to do another page I "open from template" then change the
content to what i want it to be an the new page, link it and then save it.
But when I preview the home page in my browser and then click on the relevent
link to open the next page all the navigation buttons and the title move into
different places.
Am i doing something wrong as I thought that if i opened a page from a
template the genral structure of it wouldnt move??
Thanks for any help!

You are right, the fixed elements in the template shouldn't move. So you
are doing something incorrectly.
So you created a page, saved as a template (dwt). This was saved to the
Templates folder right?
There are no other files in that Template folder. (there shouldn't be btw).
You should then go to File >New> Template Tab> and pick the template and
then press Create.
If you have done this and are still getting a problem, post a link to your
page, or your template file for someone to check. Bit difficult to
troubleshoot without seeing it.
