I'm not so familiar with deciphering the code page but on looking more closely,
it seems you're absolutely right! I don't get how it happened - when using the
openBrowserWindow behavior I named each window 'map'. Anyway, I just went
through the code and changed each name to 'map' by hand and it works a treat.

You're welcome. In my opinion, it's not possible to become a good web
developer without becoming comfortable working in the code. There are many
problems that simply cannot be solved in Design view.
